What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?

The most popular and effective light-based technologies currently on the market are lasers and IPL systems utilizing wavelengths, which are well absorbed by the melanin pigment. These devices achieve results by utilizing the principle of photothermolysis. This scientific principle targets the melanin pigment at the desired chromophore, which absorbs light energy from the device.

What does the term LHE mean?

Light Heat Energy.  IPL systems use both light and heat energy together to create results.

Why IPL and not Lasers?

1.      IPL systems utilizes incoherent light in hundreds of different wavelengths ranging from 400 to 1200 nanometers.  Lasers only utilize a specific wavelength which may not be suitable to all types and colors of hair and anatomical locations.

2.      IPL systems also reduce the need for epidermal cooling, and have a larger spot size, which translates into less time per session.

3.      IPL systems uses both light and heat to achieve long term results.  Lasers, on the other hand, utilize only the light component of the available energy generated by the device and either block or filter the heat.
